That next step for me was hiring a coach who could set me on a path to achieving my goals and dreams in this wonderful sport. I wanted a coach who would teach me, set attainable goals, devise a plan, who I could trust that would work with the lifestyle of a full-time working age-grouper. There are thousands of age-groupers in my same shoes who have their eyes on the same prize as I do, so I wanted to choose someone who had experience working with athletes of all levels. For me, this person was Kim Schwabenbauer. I began following her path in the sport a couple years ago and I really enjoyed her approach to the sport- training, nutrition, work ethic, and healthy lifestyle. I found I shared those same things but the difference was that I had hit a plateau and needed that person who could coach me to be the best athlete I could be. She also happens to be from the same hometown where my step-father is from in Pennsylvania.
Kim is the owner and CEO of Fuel Your Passion, LLC. It is her personal coaching and nutrition business that she started a few years ago. She is also a highly regarded professional triathlete who has competed on the world's biggest stages. She finished 22nd in the world at the Ironman World Championship in 2013 and made the podium at Ironman Melbourne in 2014 behind two of the worlds best- Caroline Steffen and Mary Beth Ellis. Even more than that, she understands us- age groupers who are trying to be the versions of ourselves.
I am super excited to be working with Kim and nearly one month in, I can already see a difference in my fitness level, specifically swimming, but also I am learning how to train with heart rate. Going slower to go faster? I am learning how to train the right way and trusting the plan in place and I am sure it will pay dividends.
